Project Overview
UX/UI Re-design project focussed on transforming a complex engineering configuration into a friendly user experience. This project required me to fully understand complicated engineering and back-end processes, working with engineers and developers to create a design scope along with requirements and goals.
Following the design process I collaborated with senior stakeholders throughout the project, ensuring regular feedback sessions and constant reflection on project goals. I also assisted in integrating it into DriveWorks Live web application with a the front-end developer team.
This project was a great success in demonstrating the importance of UX/UI design in complex web applications and engineering configurations. It premiered at SolidWorks World 2020 in the US and had lots of praise.
Skills
- UX/UI Design
- Collaboration with Engineers and Developers
- 3D Rendering
Why was an Upscale needed?
- Poor navigation
- No design input (full engineer and dev project)
- New innovation project needed fo 3D Experience World
- Poor user journey and interaction
The Old Design

User Journey
It was important to establish a clear user journey through this complex engineering configuration. This stage involved collaboration and testing with sales user who had not used the product before. This was crucial to create an intuitive experience.

Low Fidelity Prototype
The next stage involved rough wireframe ideation to simplify sections and prioritise key features. Low fidelity prototypes are key to easily change designs and provide a quick visualisation to develop.

Mid Fidelity Prototype
Rough sketches could then be translated into a mid level prototype to accurately create the User Interface.

High Fidelity Prototype
This could then be taken to prototype in Figma to create the complete user experience.

Solution
The final solution was coded using DriveWorks software into the live web demo. Figma assets were exported into the demo for an efficient process. The final design was adaptive for different devices.
